UO on Linux, problem emulating, almost solved.

Postby BlueAngel on Thu Mar 06, 2008 9:19 pm

Hi guys,
time ago I've made a post in which I've asked help because I was unable to connect with Ultima when on Linux. I had a lot to do because now I'm working and I hadn't time to test all the cases and try again. Recently one my friend asked me if I could run a server for him and due to I have a computer which can be dedicated to host a test shard I've got SunUO again.

After installing properly SunUO and setting my firewall and router settings I've made many test: when connectign from a Windows machine to Linux I experience no problems with unencrypted clients, tests were made with version 4.0.something, 5.X and 6.0.5.0. In the last case I was able to connect but I stuck before the character selection screen.

Anyway it was not mine intention to let SunUO work with anything, the server is up just for testing and some worldbuilding. Anyway today evening I wished to try again UO from my Linux laptop. I've made test only with a version 4.0.something because UOPatch always fail and I had no time for try to make it work.
Result of tests? I was unable to connect from client in my laptop computer to server always in my laptop computer.

Then I made another test: from my laptop to my other PC: not even a connection has made, SunUO didn't received anything nor firewall or my PC. That sounded strange to me so I've made another test.

My laptop and Ultima emulated with Wine connect to 127.0.0.1, a SSH tunnel between my laptop and my PC and the server listening to address 127.0.0.1 result in a succesfully connection and I was able to play.

Now my question is: why I'm able to connect only to localhost? And why I was unable when server and clients are in the same machine? Is it just a problem with the emulators?
Did someone had mine or similar problems?

If you are still there and wish to have some info tests were also made with RunUO 2 RC2 (rev 293) and SphereServer .56b with identical results.
Mono is version 1.2.3, wine is version 0.9.56, cedega is version 6.0.3, SunUo is version 0.5.1. What else you need?
Thank you in advance for your replies.

Hi,

Just checking - have you set the sunuo server to listen on 0.0.0.0? (All interfaces)
I think you can edit this in the xml config file... However I'm not sure...

Hope this helps,

Of course I did it, and if I'm not wrong it's the default value.
Thank you for the reply.
